“God willing, I will be in the squad for the Copa America.”

Those were the words of Rangers hitman Alfredo Morelos, as quoted by the Scottish Sun, just last week ahead of Colombia’s squad announcement for the South American tournament, the Ibrox ace having picked up his first international minutes earlier this season.

Unfortunately for the impetuous striker, it appears as though his disciplinary horror show in Scotland, as well as a mixed performance for his country, has resulted in heartbreak.

The Colombian FA confirmed on their official website their list of 40 names selected ahead of the final 23-man squad for the tournament and Morelos’ was nowhere to be seen – a huge blow to his international career at this moment and perhaps Rangers too.

Having made it very clear his focus lies on forging a career with his country, Morelos will be looking at his club form and no doubt wondering whether he needs to be aiming much, much higher to achieve his goals.

Rangers would obviously love to keep him on board after his goal scoring exploits but if they cannot get him into the Colombia squad, then he will be looking for a move away sooner rather than later.

It is the worst case scenario for Rangers and they best pray he does not let this heartbreak impact his future too much.
