Rangers goalkeeper Robby McCrorie has admitted that he would be happy to go out on loan again next season.

The 6’2″ starlet [Transfermarkt] spent the second half of last season on loan at Morton in the Scottish Championship, but has revealed that conversations with Gers number one Allan McGregor have inspired him to get as much first team action under his belt as possible.

Speaking to the Scottish Sun, the young stopper, said: “I spoke to him [McGregor] when he came back to the club last summer and he said the best thing he ever did was go out and get some games on loan early in his career.

“I want to achieve what Allan has and I am aiming for the top. I don’t know what will happen next season as yet.

“But I’d be happy to go back out on loan again if Rangers don’t need me — hopefully for a full season.

“That would mean I would have played 18 months of first-team football. It will help me, and the club, in the long run.”

OPINION

It’s good to hear a young player with this kind of proactive attitude. It would be very easy for McCrorie to rest on his laurels and just pick up a pay check in the reserves at Ibrox, but instead he is showing that he is hungry, and that he clearly has the desire to become a top player for the Gers. If that means going out on loan, then so be it. Spells in the lower divisions are almost always a good idea for young players, but especially so for goalkeepers. Chances for up and coming stoppers are always at a premium, and unless you have a freakish run of injuries, it can be hard for a precocious talent to get a stint in the side. Sending them out on loan not only helps them with their development in this sense, but also gives them a better understanding of the grit and mental strength required to play in net in the senior game. By the sounds of it, McCrorie already has a pretty good handle on both, but a little bit more never comes in wrong.
