Ally McCoist was in disbelief after Alan Brazil claimed he wanted Celtic to lose against Aberdeen so they could win the league title against Rangers at Ibrox next weekend.

The Hoops can wrap up their historic eighth league title in a row by avoiding defeat against Aberdeen on Saturday, but Brazil would rather Celtic held off the celebrations and confirmed the league title against the Gers on the 12th of May.

“I’d rather win it at Ibrox,” said Brazil as quoted by talkSPORT’s website.

McCoist replied: “Do you seriously? (Brazil confirmed he was), “OK, so you would mind getting beat tomorrow? (Brazil replied no).”

McCoist then proceeded to share his surprise over the remarks and asked what would happen if the Gers beat the Hoops in that scenario.

“What if you get beat tomorrow and get beat at Ibrox?” asked the Gers legend.

Brazil replied: “We wont get beat at Ibrox.”

McCoist then questioned Brazil’s confidence by asking “Would you be willing to take that chance?” and the presenter shared his belief in Celtic’s ability to beat the Gers.

““If we had to beat you, we’d beat you at Ibrox, yeah!” stated Brazil.

OPINION

Brazil claimed he’d be happy to see Celtic lose to Aberdeen on Saturday, but surely that’s a foolish statement to make. The Gers have beaten Celtic before this season and it’s not unthinkable they can do it again. So why would you want to risk losing the league title just for the chance to make your archrivals that little more uncomfortable? Steven Gerrard’s side are surely not going to like the clash with Celtic either way as if the Hoops win the title against Aberdeen, then they’d be expected to do a guard of honour. That’s not going to be a nice experience for the Gers’ squad especially as you can imagine supporters vocally showing their displeasure in this moment. While Brazil clearly is just envisioning how sweet winning the title at Ibrox would be for Celtic, he is digging himself a hole. McCoist is completely right to be taken back by his co-host on this occasion as you should never be okay with a team you support losing.
