The transfer window is still in its infancy and we are already facing a deluge of potential moves and bidding wars.

The summer ahead is sure to be a busy one, and you would expect Rangers to be a major participant in the madness that lies ahead.

The Gers did an admirable job of pushing Celtic in the title race this season, but ultimately, they never properly looked as if they had the legs or depth to go all the way.

Steven Gerrard will be desperate to amend that this summer, with the general feeling around Ibrox sure to be one of renewed optimism after a genuinely impressive debut campaign for the manager.

This summer will be make or break in the blue half of Glasgow, however.

Gerrard will have to strike a balance between quality and astute business, and one player who could represent both is Oldham Athletic defender George Edmundson.

The 21-year-old enjoyed a stellar campaign for the League Two side this year, and was voted into the division’s team of the year for his efforts.

Rangers have reportedly already had a bid rejected for the centre-back, as reported by the Daily Mail, but another update on the battle for Edmundson’s signature should give them plenty of hope.

According to Hull Live, Hull City will not be pursuing a move for the defender after deeming the Latics’ £500,000 asking price excessive.

That can only be good news for Rangers, who must surely feel that their chance of landing their man have been given a boost by a key competitor dropping out of the race.
