Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has confirmed that the club has “made an offer” to make Ryan Kent’s move from Liverpool a permanent one.

The 22-year-old has excelled since his loan move from Merseyside last summer, scoring six goals and assisting nine others in 45 appearances.

Speaking to the Daily Record following the Gers’ final-day 2-1 defeat to Kilmarnock, Gerrard assured supporters that they are trying their best to keep Kent at Ibrox.

“We’re doing everything we can,” the manager said.

“We’re speaking to Liverpool, we’re in touch with Ryan’s representatives, we’ve made an offer and we’re hopeful but there’s nothing to say on it to confirm it but for our supporters what I can do is guarantee we’re doing everything we can to try and get him in.

“We’ve got irons in the fire with numerous players but all I can say is watch this space. We’re making additions to the squad and Greg Stewart is someone we admire very much.”

OPINION

This is excellent news for Rangers fans. Having seen what Kent was capable of while working with him as a teammate at Liverpool, the 22-year-old was one of Gerrard’s first acquisitions as Gers boss and he has not disappointed. Some of Kent’s best performances this season came at the start of his loan spell when the Ibrox club were going through the Europa League qualification rounds, with the winger getting one assist. But it is the Scottish Premiership in which Kent has been most effective, scoring six goals and laying on six others for teammates in 23 appearances. He has been fantastic all-round for Rangers this season and he would be like a new signing if the club can keep him around. By the sounds of it, Gerrard is desperate to do that and it looks like he will not give up until he has to, which is definitely the right approach to take.
