Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has revealed that the club has only received one bid for striker Alfredo Morelos after the 2-1 defeat to Kilmarnock.

The Colombian international has split opinion this season at Ibrox, becoming the club’s top scorer this term with 30 goals but also receiving five red cards along the way.

Ligue 1 club Marseille have previously been credited with serious interest in the 22-year-old – who himself dreams of “playing in a more competitive league” – and Gerrard confirmed that there has been one unnamed approach for the player.

“He is on a four-year contract. We have had one bid for Alfredo since I’ve been Rangers manager and it was for three million euros,” the manager told the Daily Mirror [01:23].

“Would you expect to see him in the summer if you were me?”

OPINION

There is no better way to sum up Morelos at Ibrox this season than to say he has split opinion. He has been so influential – Rangers would not be where they finished up without his 30 goals for the season – but he has also been their downfall on so many occasions, with five red cards the least of his frustrating contributions to the side. Overall, there would be fans on both sides of the fence if Morelos left. While he has a proven eye for goal and is only 22, there is certainly room for him to get even better and develop as a player. But on the other hand, can the Colombian really be trusted to sort out his disciplinary issues this summer, get his head down and start afresh? It sounds as if Gerrard is not willing to let Morelos go for cheap – in fact, the reported £2.6m fee quoted by Gerrard is a joke for a 30-goal striker, even if he does have a wretched record of picking up red cards. The Ibrox club should definitely raise the stakes higher than that.
