Si Ferry has suggested that Rangers target Greg Stewart would be a better number 10 for the Gers than Scott Arfield.

Steven Gerrard’s men are heavily linked with the 29-year-old, as reported by the Daily Record, and Ferry, who has played with both, believes he could be a success at Ibrox.

Speaking on the Open Goal podcast, he said: “Scott Arfield’s playing the No10 role.

“No disrespect to Scott Arfield because I think he’s better as a centre midfielder, I just mean for that role.”

OPINION

Ferry probably knows what he’s talking about more than most would here. Having played with both players he is in a uniquely well-informed position to comment on their strengths and weaknesses, and if he believes that Stewart could do a job at Ibrox then you have to trust in that. What he’s saying is evidently no slight on Arfield, who has been in fine form for the Gers this season, but it is clear that he is not an out and out number 10, whereas Stewart is perhaps more of a forward thinking opinion. Gerrard appears to be making good, early moves to build not just a strong team, but a side with depth as well. Signings like Stewart may not be loaded with star power necessarily, but they have the capacity to turn the Gers into a side that has the ability and longevity to sustain a season long title bid.
