Ferguson valuation is ludicrous

Alfredo Morelos is a bit of a riddle.

How do you get the best out of a player who seems intent on losing his head every other week?

Is there any way of getting through to him and calming him down, or is it worth just cutting your losses and looking instead for a player that you can trust to be available week in, week out?

The Colombian’s talent has never been in doubt. 29 goals in all competitions this season, especially bearing in mind how much football he has missed through suspension, is some return.

Taking that player out of any side would be a seismic blow, make no mistake, but there comes a point where you have to say enough is enough.

The Gers have managed okay without Morelos in recent weeks, with Jermain Defoe proving once again why he is regarded as one of the highest class finishers the modern British game has seen.

And the veteran’s form, alongside Morelos’ disciplinary issues, mean that you could completely understand how and why Steven Gerrard might choose to cash in on his star man.

If the South American is to go this summer, it then raises the question as to how much he is worth.

You would expect him to fetch a pretty penny, regardless of where he ends up, but his propensity for needless dismissals will surely shave a couple of million of his price tag.

The latest valuation from former Rangers man Derek Ferguson is frankly ludicrous though.

Speaking in the Open Goal podcast, as quoted by the Scottish Sun, he said: “I think if they get maybe even £6million or £7m, I would snap you’re hand off for that.

“Steven Gerrard and Gary McAllister will have their eyes on other players, there are other players out there.

“They’ve been better without him.”

Ferguson raises some decent points, but to suggest that Morelos is worth £6 million is nothing short of ridiculous.

He won’t fetch a king’s ransom, sure, but if Rangers were to let him go at that price, they would be shooting themselves in the foot big time.
