Former Rangers man Derek Ferguson has suggested that there could be “something on the horizon” with regards to Max Lowe joining the Gers.

The 22-year-old left-back has enjoyed a stellar season at Aberdeen on loan from Derby County, and Ferguson believes that he could return north of the border next season.

Speaking on the Open Goal podcast, he said: “I like the boy Max Lowe. I don’t know the situation at the moment…I know he’s a Derby player.

“But I think there might be something on the horizon.”

Podcast host Si Ferry replied: “Back to Aberdeen?”

When asked about possible link to Rangers, he added: “There might be something in that

“I think he ticks all the boxes.”

OPINION

This sounds like supposition from Ferguson, but it should certainly be enough to get Rangers fans excited. Lowe has been excellent for Aberdeen this season, and he definitely looks as of he could have a really decent future in the game, whether that be in Scotland or back at parent club Derby. You would argue that he would struggle to break into the first team at County, and at 22, if that is the case, then would he be tempted to look elsewhere for regular senior football. Rangers, if they do make an approach, would be hard to turn down, surely. Lowe has the potential to be a top player, but he needs to be playing every week to reach the level that he promises to. Would he do that at Ibrox? Very probably. Even if this is just a hunch that Ferguson has, perhaps the Gers should act on it.
