Rangers striker Kyle Lafferty is looking for a transfer closer to home amid speculation over his future at Ibrox, according to the Football Insider.

The reliable outlet report that Lafferty is preparing for a move away from Rangers this summer, but that he wants to move closer to home, after being linked with a move to Cypriot side Apollon Limassol, who are believed to be in the hunt for the striker, according to the Scottish Sun.

The 31-year-old fell down the first team pecking order towards the end of the campaign at Rangers, with the Northern Ireland international not even being included in the 18-man squad for the final four games of the season.

Lafferty only re-joined Rangers for a second spell at Ibrox last summer after signing from Hearts for a fee of around £450,000, but it appears he will be allowed to leave the club after scoring six goals in 30 appearances this term.

OPINION

It is interesting that Lafferty is going to be up for sale just a year after Rangers signed him from Hearts, with the striker probably unlikely to feature in Gerrard’s starting line-up next term. Lafferty has been somewhat of a disappointment at Ibrox, managing only six goals and not being a regular starter towards the end of the season, with the likes of Alfredo Morelos and January addition Jermaine Defoe both ahead of the 31-year-old in Gerrard’s pecking order. It will be interesting to see where Lafferty ends up if the club do sell this summer, and whether he remains in Scotland or moves to a different league altogether. However, what is unlikely is him moving to Apollon Limassol in Cyprus, with the striker probably looking to move to a club either in England or another side in Scotland. Wherever he goes next the striker will need to show an improved attitude around the training ground than he is believed to have displayed this term for Rangers. If he can manage to move clubs and begin to knuckle down he would be a valuable addition for a host of sides near to the Ibrox club if he leaves this summer.
