Scottish Championship side Dundee United are interested in signing Rangers full-back Lee Wallace, according to the Daily Record.

The 31-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, and is set to leave Ibrox when his deal expires having made just three appearances for Steven Gerrard’s side this season.

It is understood that a host of clubs are interested in the 10 cap Scotland international, with United named alongside former club Hearts and a number of English Championship sides as potential destinations.

OPINION

Credit where it’s due, Wallace has been a fantastic servant to Rangers down the years since he signed for Ally McCoist in 2011. The player stuck by the Gers when it all went wrong, and has been with them from the bottom tier all the way the up to their current iteration as a potential title contender. Many others jumped ship, and understandably so, but his loyalty is credit to his character, and even if he does go at the end of the the season, Wallace will always been remembered fondly by the Ibrox faithful for what he has done at the club. The truth is that it is time for him to bow out now, but it is reassuring to know that there will be some competition for his signature when it comes to him leaving. It shows that he still has a lot to give, and even if that isn’t at Ibrox, he can still be a real asset to somebody somewhere.
