Eriksen agreement means nothing

Any verbal agreement between Christian Eriksen and Real Madrid will mean nothing to Daniel Levy, according to the Telegraph journalist Matt  Law.

Spanish outlet AS ran a cover story suggesting that the Dane has already agreed to join the European champions, but Law has suggested that any such deal will matter little to the Tottenham chairman.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, he said: “Reality: Any verbal agreement between a Spurs player and another club would mean sweet FA to Daniel Levy.

“I’m not saying this isn’t true or that Eriksen won’t join Real but verbal agreements do not really exist in Levy’s world.”

OPINION

Levy is a notoriously tough negotiator, and not the kind who will not be kowtowed into allowing a player to leave just because he has agreed to join another club. Whether that has actually happened or not is, of course, unconfirmed, but certainly, if Eriksen has told Madrid that he will go, you can imagine Levy taking a fairly negative view of that agreement. Spurs are obviously facing a tricky situation as far as the Dane is concerned. His contract is out next summer, and if he doesn’t agree to a new one then there is every chance that he could be lost on a free. That would be a disaster, but so would being forced into selling him this summer. Levy has to be careful on how he approaches the whole scenario, but one thing is for sure, whatever game he ends up playing, he will make sure that he is the one setting out the rules.
