Barry Ferguson has lauded Gers midfielder Glen Kamara, after Rangers defeated Celtic 2-0 at Ibrox yesterday afternoon.

Kamara played a huge role in the Old Firm victory and the 23-year-old’s bursting run led to Scott Arfield’s 64th-minute goal.

Ferguson suggested that Kamara was a contender for the man of the match award and also stated the Finland international looked like he had been playing for Rangers for years.

“From such a quality team performance it’s hard to pick a Man of the Match because every single one of them were good. But I would go for either Scott Arfield or Glen Kamara,” Ferguson wrote in his column for The Daily Record.

“Arfield took his goal well and that position, coming in off the flank, clearly suits him. His timing of his runs is different class and his experience shows through.

“But Kamara is arguably even more impressive in the sense of how quickly he has settled into the team having been signed from a struggling Dundee team with no shortage of doubters,” Ferguson added.

“I thought he’d need time to settle but he has just fitted in and looked like he’s been part of that team for a number of years. He’s been really elegant on the ball, I really like him.”

OPINION

Glen Kamara was absolutely sensational yesterday afternoon. He was the driving force that pushed the Gers forwards and his work rate was faultless. Considering Kamara arrived for such a small amount, it’s a remarkable piece of business and without doubt, his value wii have rocketed already. Kamara is both defensively sound and offensively dangerous, he is a nightmare to come up against because of his work ethic and tenacity, he really is the player who Rangers have been lacking in recent years. With a handful of solid additions in the summer, Rangers could have a midfield force to be reckoned with and will have their sights firmly set on challenging Celtic more than they have done this season.  Scott Brown couldn’t get near Kamara during yesterday’s game and this will give Steven Gerrard great encouragement going into the new season – it was a major mentality and confidence boost which could go on to be a big factor going into the summer.
