Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield has praised the impact of recent signing Glen Kamara by hailing his teammate as the “biggest steal of the century”.

Having previously signed a pre-contract agreement with Steven Gerrard’s side, the Finland international moved to Ibrox from Dundee in January and has scored one goal and assisted another in his first 10 games for the club.

The 22-year-old’s arrival has also benefited his Rangers teammate, with Arfield scoring four goals in his last five games from playing in a more advanced position since Kamara’s introduction.

Speaking to Ladbrokes’ Facebook page, Arfield went as far as to say that Kamara’s impact warrants him a place in the list of the best signings of the 21st century.

“Glen for 50k is the biggest steal of the century,” Arfield said.

“He’s come in and he’s took to life. In terms of coming from Dundee with no expectation on him but in terms of how he plays the expectation arises because he’s such a good footballer and he’s kept that going.

“You’ve got Jacko (Ryan Jack) in there, Doc (Greg Docherty) down at Shrewsbury and coming back with a good rep, (Jordan) Rossiter has been the same, (Ross) McCrorie, (Graham) Dorrans coming back so in terms of the whole package it’s fantastic to see.

“It’s exactly what you want, competition for places but when you’re in there you’ve got to take the opportunity and keep it.”

OPINION

Kamara is definitely not the steal of the century – far from it – but nevertheless his impact on this Rangers side should not be underestimated. His individual statistics – one goal and one assist in his first 10 games – are nothing to write home about, but his impact on the players around him, and especially Arfield, have been fantastic. Since coming in, Kamara has helped Arfield settle into a more advanced role, from which the latter has scored four goals in his last five games and deservedly picked up the Player of the Month award for April. Kamara’s introduction into the Rangers side promoted a slight change in formation to accommodate the Finland international but it definitely seems to have worked. One thing is for certain: it all bodes well for Gerrard’s side next season if his midfield can be as supportive of their attacking teammates as they have been in recent weeks.
