Celtic duo James Forrest and Odsonne Edouard have given manager Neil Lennon a boost ahead of their Scottish Cup final by returning to training this week, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper claim in an update from the club’s training ground that there were fears the attacking pair could miss out on the game against Hearts a week on Saturday, with the clash at Hampden Park the Hoops’ chance to secure a third successive treble.

With their final league game coming against the same opposition that they will meet in the final, the report states that Forrest and Edouard have buried any worries of them not making the crunch clash in just over a week.

Opinion

Celtic were seriously missing Forrest’s talents on the wing when they took on Rangers in their derby defeat and so it is completely understandable why they might have been worried about him missing the cup final. The Hoops will of course be firm favourites against Hearts but they cannot be complacent and having one of their very best players available will boost their chances of glory, something which he has played a huge part in of late. As for Edouard, he is of course the club’s main striker but he will not be seen as much of a miss as the man who usually feeds him with service from out wide. There will some doubters questioning whether the French striker can say this has been a successful season, for he certainly has not stolen the limelight after his big money move. He has scored goals regularly but you would expect that from any half decent hitman leading the line for Celtic in Scotland. Can he be their cup hero? Only time will tell, but at least Lennon will be able to call on him if needed.
