Chris Sutton has suggested that Neil Lennon has no idea about what is happening with regards to his future at Celtic, but has claimed that the signs are not good for the Northern Irishman.

Lennon has been at the helm since Brendan Rodgers walked away from the club to join Leicester City earlier this season, but Sutton believes that if the Hoops were willing to give him the job on a permanent basis, they would have by now.

Writing in a column for the Daily Record, he said: “If he knows what is going on with his future, then I’d want him in my poker team.

“I sat with him on Thursday to do an interview ahead of this Final and he never cracked a light. I genuinely believe he doesn’t know himself and I find that strange in itself.

“In fact, it actually leads me to think the Celtic hierarchy do not really trust him.

“Surely, if Celtic really valued his skills, they would have appointed him on a full-time basis by now.”

OPINION

This does not sound good for Lennon at all. Sutton knows his stuff, and he knows Celtic, and the fact that he has such sizeable reservations about the manager’s long term future at Parkhead does not bode well. The former Bhoys striker raises a very valid point though. You can’t help feeling that there’s something amiss with Lennon’s tenure. For everything he has helped the Hoops achieve this season, and despite the fact that he could be the man who guides them to a treble treble, you can’t help feeling that the hierarchy are still waiting on somebody bigger or better to come along. If that is the case, then how can Lennon ever take the job, even if it is offered to him? He has shown unwavering loyalty to the club in their time of need, but if Sutton’s comments are anything to go by, they are going to repay him by chucking him out on his ear. You would that the Hoops think better of it, but at the moment, the signs are not good for Lennon.
