Alan McInally has claimed that Neil Lennon should definitely be given the permanent manager’s job.

The interim boss helped the Hoops capture their eighth consecutive league title on Saturday lunchtime with a 3-0 win over Aberdeen, and Sky Sports pundit McInally believes that he has earned a crack at the role on a permanent basis.

Speaking on Sky Sports News (May 4th, 11.35am), when asked if Lennon should be appointed, the former Bhoys forward said:  “Yeah I do. Yeah I absolutely do.

“Coming in, Neil knows the club. I think the fans like Neil.

“Obviously, he’s been there before and had super success.”

OPINION

Lennon certainly seems like the popular choice amongst pundits and former Hoops players, and it’s easy to see why. He is a well-liked figure, and one who knows the club inside and out. His loyalty cannot be questioned, but perhaps most importantly, he has been able to come in and steady the ship through a very rocky spell that could have easily capsized Celtic’s season. Results and performances may not always have been perfect, but there has been a certain amount of consistency, and when things are as tumultuous as they were earlier in the season, that has to be admired. Given a summer to sort things out, to stamp his own mark on this side, and to really instil his philosophy on things at Parkhead, Lennon would surely turn this team into a fearsome force in his own image. Whether that happens or not remains to be seen.
