Malmo have offered Celtic defender Mikael Lustig a “bumper deal” which would make him one of the best earners in Sweden, according to the Scottish Sun

The report claims he has a lot of options, with AIK Stockholm keen too. There’s the possibility of him staying at Celtic too if Neil Lennon gets the permanent role after the cup final.

The end-of-season showdown is on Saturday and the 32-year-old right-back is out of contract at the end of the month.

OPINION

Lustig has faced some pretty critical feedback from the Celtic fans this season and we doubt many of them would be that upset if he took the money and went back to Sweden. He’s one of the highest earners at Celtic, on a reported £24k-a-week, and fans will be keen to see a new right-back installed by whoever gets the new manager job. If it’s Lennon, Lustig might well get offered a new deal to stay. Lennon has hailed him as one of the best signings Celtic have made and claimed he was a “brilliant player and a brilliant boy”. He wants to keep hold of him but first he’s got to get the Celtic job on a permanent basis. That’s not a given even if he wins the cup on Saturday and we’d imagine that if Lennon goes, Lustig does too. Whatever fans might think of him now, though, Lustig has done his service in the Hoops, after arriving seven years ago on a free transfer from Rosenborg. All but the hardest-hearted Celtic fan would begrudge him a bumper contract back in Sweden.
