Former Celtic and Hibernian coach Garry Parker is excited over returning to Parkhead this summer as Neil Lennon looks to appoint him onto his backroom staff, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper claim on their website that the Celtic boss has been keen on bringing his own staff in since being appointed caretaker boss and now he has been offered the role on a permanent basis, is keen to bring Parker back to Glasgow.

He was part of the coaching staff during Lennon’s first spell in charge and also served under the manager at Hibs before they both left their posts earlier this year.

Opinion

Now that Lennon seems to have a long term future in the Celtic dugout, it only makes sense that he should be given the chance to shape his backroom as he sees fit. Parker is obviously someone he has a great amount of trust in, having taken him to Celtic and to Hibs and so it should come as no surprise to see him linked with a move back to Parkhead. The question that needs to be asked is whether the Hoops should be reverting to what worked for them nearly a decade ago, or whether they should be looking for new ideas from forward thinking coaches. It is all well and good Lennon surrounding himself with those who have been a success in the past but how much of an impact can the likes of Parker really have on their European campaign. The Bhoys have dominated Scotland for three seasons – now they should be looking at making their mark on the continent.
