Glen Johnson has stated that he would come out of retirement to play for Celtic.

The former England international hung up his boots earlier this year, but has suggested that he would dust them off if he got the call from Parkhead.

Speaking on talkSPORT, as quoted in the Daily Record, when asked if he would be tempted by the Hoops, he said: “Yeah. I’d get my boots on, no drama.”

OPINION

Whether Johnson meant this sincerely or not is open for discussion, but certainly there would have been a time not too long ago when Celtic fans would have bitten your hand off at the prospect of having him at Parkhead. Johnson was a brilliant footballer, and an underrated one for much of his career. When he retired earlier this year, there was certainly a feeling that he could still cut it at a decent level if he wanted to. Perhaps Celtic could be that level. The Scottish game is often seen as a place where players can eek out a few more years, rightly or wrongly, and you would assume that Johnson could still do a tidy enough job for a team north of the border. It almost certainly won’t happen, but if they had had this information a little sooner, the Hoops might have nabbed themselves a real coup.
