Tottenham fans will surely be getting excited after Mauricio Pochettino said that he is going to talk with owner Daniel Levy about how to take the club forward.

Speaking to talkSPORT in an interview published on the radio station’s official Twitter account, Pochettino explained his vision for the club.

“It’s about finishing the Champions League and then talking about how we are going to make the next step. That is so important and always is for us.

“Myself and the owner need to talk to know his ideas and to share and then to try to decide the plan to reach the last step, and be in a position that makes us dream and believe that we can be real contenders.”

This will be such welcome news to Spurs fans. Speculation has been rife for the last two weeks or so that Pochettino could leave, with Juventus the latest club he’s been linked to. It’s partly speculation, but it’s also partly inference, since he suggested that he could not top a Champions League victory with the club this season.

Pochettino has a point; Spurs’ run to the final has been immense and there is little chance of the club repeating it unless they invest heavily this summer.

But these latest comments will relieve Spurs fans. While it is clear Pochettino is open to the prospect of staying in North London – that is a given – these quotes suggest that talks could begin between the manager and Levy.

That will be such a relief to Spurs fans because Pochettino’s previous remarks suggest he could have left regardless of what Levy might have offered. Now, talks of a “next step” could mean the pair are planning for the future.

In the interview with talkSPORT, Pochettino also describes Tottenham as the “best club in the world”, highlighting recent investments in the new stadium and training facilities as having a key factor in the rise in stock of the club.

For a club which has clearly shown ambition by building this new stadium, it seems that Pochettino is likening the thought of taking he club forward. And that can only be good news for Spurs fans now.
