Many Celtic fans will surely shiver with fear over Kris Commons claiming that Callum McGregor is set to be a sought-after player this summer.
The Sky Sports pundit gushed about the 25-year-old following the Hoops 3-0 win against Aberdeen on Saturday and in the process claimed there would be a few teams wanting his services.
“He’s a very very talented boy and I did say early on they’ll be a few wanting his services,” said Commons on Sky Sports Football (Saturday May 4th, 14:56).
“We talk about Celtic getting players in but he is one you want to build your team around, so a very vital and important player for Celtic in the future.”
While Commons was quick to insist that Celtic shouldn’t part company with McGregor as he is the type of player you a build a team around, it wouldn’t have made fans any more confident about keeping him.
McGregor is a key member of Celtic’s squad as not only is he a touch of class when on the ball, he is able to consistently deliver fantastic performances.
The attacking midfielder has assisted 15 goals, while also scoring six, this season in his 56 outings across all competitions and if he was to leave; it would be a near-impossible task to replace him.
While some Celtic fans will likely feel confident about McGregor staying put, as he seems happy at the club and is contracted to stay until 2023, there will still be many who will worry over Commons’ claim.
There are teams out there who can make an offer too good to turn down that could also convince McGregor to jump ship, as given his talent surely the clubs that Commons believes will be chasing the midfielder will be impressive ones.
Losing McGregor would be unthinkable and even the mention of clubs just thinking about trying their luck by attempting to sign him is enough to put the cat among the pigeons.
