Celtic have held talks with former FC Nuremberg boss Michael Kollner, according to Wales Online.

The Hoops are looking for somebody to take the permanent manager’s job at Parkhead, with Neil Lennon currently holding the role in an interim capacity.

It is understood that the club have had discussions with the 49-year-old, who is also being linked with the vacant position at Swansea City, but would ideally prefer somebody with more managerial experience.

Kollner held the top job at Nuremberg between July 2017 and February of this year, having previously been manager of the German side’s academy setup.

OPINION

This will be a worrying development for Neil Lennon. The interim boss is arguably the default favourite to take the manager’s job at Parkhead next season, and on the basis of the fact that he has helped steady the team and guide them to the brink of a historic treble treble, he very probably deserves it. The fact that the Hoops are opening talks with other candidates will do little to fill him with optimism though. On the one hand, it’s probably fairly standard practice for them to sound out other options before making a decision. On the other, you would assume that if they were keen on Lennon, they would feel no need to do that in the first place. It sounds as if talks with Kollner have fizzled out before they really got serious, but for Lennon, who will be waiting on tenterhooks, this will be a bit of a knock on his confidence, surely.
