Whatever happens between now and the end of his Celtic career, Jozo Simunovic will be remembered as a bit of a hero. First, the big number five honoured the memory of club legend Billy McNeill superbly with a towering header in the 67th minute against Kilmarnock last week, and then he went and tied up the title for Celtic with another thumping effort in the 3-0 win over Aberdeen on Saturday. As far as headers go, it doesn’t get much better than this one. The Croatian rose well above his marker from a floated corner and met the delivery as purely as you could wish for to give Joe Lewis in the Dons’ net no chance. Beyond his goal, however, this was another fine performance from the defender. Largely unfancied under Brendan Rodgers, he has managed to establish himself as one of the most important members of Neil Lennon’s side, and his contributions were once again evident as he put in a top quality display. Strong, powerful, no nonsense defenders will never go out of fashion, and if Simunovic continues in this rich vein of form that he is currently mining, he will be go down as a proper cult hero at Parkhead.
