Candeias received several messages wishing him the best on reaching that milestone including a six-word message from Alves.

“Very top my brother! Strong hug,” said Alves, when translated, via his personal Instagram account.

OPINION

To say Alves didn’t have the best spell at Ibrox is an understatement. The 37-year-old arrived at the Gers with a lot of hype surrounding him due to his previous accomplishments yet struggled to deliver the goods. In fact Alves’ spell went so horribly wrong that despite only arriving at Ibrox in July 2017, he had his exit confirmed only a year later. The centre-back joined Italian club Parma after leaving the Gers and in fairness to him, he has gotten his career back on the right track. Alves has generally impressed across the 31 outings he has made, and he has even managed to chip in four goals as well as one assist in his appearances. However the Gers should have no regrets over letting him go, as if he had struck around chances are he’d still be struggling in Scotland. Yet aside from Alves’ chequered history with the Gers, it is nice to see him celebrate Candeias reaching 50 appearances for the club. The winger’s form may be a bit of rollercoaster ride this season, but there’s no denying his talent.
