Wolves are interested in signing Atletico Madrid left-back Filipe Luis, according to Goal Brazil.

The outlet claims that Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have joined PSG and Flamengo in the chase for the 38-time Brazilian international.

The report claims, however, that Atletico would prefer to keep Luis – whose contract runs out this summer – at the club next season after selling Lucas Hernandez to Bayern Munich earlier this year.

Luis – who won the Europa League with Atletico last season – has played 27 times for the La Liga side this term, chipping in with two goals.

Good move for Wolves?

Probably not – Luis is 33 and a move to Wolves would not suit him. The club have good options at left-back already in Jonny Castro Otto and Ruben Vinagre, meaning that if Luis was to come in, he would be fighting for a spot in the squad. Nuno’s side is settled now and showed excellent promise and another left-back is not where they need to prioritise this summer. In fact, Otto joined Wolves from Atletico himself, first on a loan deal then on a permanent one, so it is unlikely Wolves would want to raid the club again.

Likely to happen?

Again, very unlikely. Bayern Munich paid a club-record fee for Hernandez and he was a big loss to Atletico. This summer, the Spanish side will be doing all they can to keep hold of Luis. While his current deal expires this summer, he is almost certain to be kept on at the Wanda Metropolitano until he retires in the next few years and there is no chance Wolves will sign him this summer.
