Danny Murphy revealed he thought Nuno Espirito Santo had done an incredible job as manager of Wolves this season.

The former Liverpool player was asked for his opinion on the bosses who had been nominated for Premier League Manager of the Season and weighed up what Santo had achieved before simply saying “incredible.”

“The Wolves guy, semi-final, top ten…incredible,” said Murphy on Sky Sports’ The Debate (Sky Sports Premier League 22:39, Tuesday May 7th).

The Premier League’s official website revealed on Tuesday that Santo had been nominated for Manager of the Season along with Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

OPINION

While Murphy appeared to forget Nuno’s name and took a moment to weigh up what the boss had accomplished this season, his one-word verdict ended up being spot-on. Nuno has worked wonders at Wolves this season as not many would have expected him to guide his team to a seventh-placed finish in the Premier League. While Nuno’s job has been made easier with some excellent work behind-the-scenes to get the right players through the door, it still takes a talented manager to form a successful team and get the best out of what is available to him. There’s no denying that’s what Nuno has done and being a nominee for Manager of the Season reflects his work. While Nuno will probably not win the accolade, as you feel Guardiola or Klopp are the favourites for the award, there’s always next year. If the Wolves boss is able to build on what he has achieved this season, then awards will surely follow.
