West Ham are interested in signing Nigerian striker David Okereke, according to Tuttomercatoweb.

The 21-year-old has scored 10 and assisted 12 for Serie B side Spezia Calcio this season and his impressive form has not gone unnoticed.

The report claims that West Ham have been monitoring him for weeks and may be ready to firm up their interest.

Good move for West Ham?

The Hammers need to add more firepower to their ranks this summer. Andy Carroll, Lucas Perez and Javier Hernandez have been linked with moves away from the club and this will be a big concern for Pellegrini. With West Ham potentially losing some big names, the club needs to add players who can make an immediate impact. Okereke would arrive with little expectation and with that in mind, the striker has a point to prove. This is a low-risk move that will not break the bank. If Hernandez departs, the Hammers should go for a bigger name and really spend big. Okereke may be one option, but he can’t be the option.

Likely to happen?

This move depends on who leaves the club. The Hammers need more quality added summer and Okereke may not be ready for such a big step-up. There’s a big step up from Serie B to the Premier League. If West Ham can secure a cost-effective deal then it he could be worth a gamble and Okereke would definitely jump at the chance to hook up with a club like West Ham and a manager like Pellegrini.
