talkSPORT pundit Darren Gough was talking about Real Madrid star Gareth Bale coming back to Tottenham, after the Sun reported that a sensational loan deal was being mooted.

That would see Tottenham paying a £10million loan fee and £250k of his £600k-a-week wages for a season-long loan – £23million in total

The report claims the Tottenham transfer committee is considering the move.

However, Gough said on Drive (talkSPORT, Tuesday, 4pm) that he would have a real problem with that sort of money given Bale’s injury issues.

“The problem I would have if I was one of the financial people at one of these clubs,” Gough said, “I would worry he’s going to come in and get an injury. He’s picked up a lot of injuries recently.”

OPINION

It’s a fair point. The fee and wages would total £23million, which is a big outlay for a single season even if Bale played every game. However, he’s only played more than 30 league games in one season for Real Madrid since moving to Spain following the 12/13 season. He’s had a variety of injury issues, missing games this season with calf and ankle problems. Daniel Levy wouldn’t be very happy if he shelled out that sort of money only for Bale to sit on the sidelines. All that has to be weighed up over the positives that Bale would bring to the club – and there are many. If he was guaranteed to be fit then he would be a wonderful addition to the Tottenham team and a real statement of intent from Levy and Pochettino. We can’t imagine any manager in the Premier League who wouldn’t want Bale in their side. Will he come back? We’d probably have to say no, although we wouldn’t be surprised if Man United came calling for him. £23million is a drop in the ocean for them.
