West Ham’s Samir Nasri is set to turn down a pay-as-you-play offer to stay with the club, according to Football Insider.

The former France international was hoping for a two-year extension on his deal which was agreed back in December – Nasri is currently pocketing £75,000 per week.

Nasri’s game-time has been sporadic since his arrival and with his injury record, the Hammers have opted not to hand the 31-year-old the deal that he had hoped.

West Ham offered Nasri a pay-as-you-play contract but it is understood that Nasri would have had to take a significant pay cut in order to stay with the club. The former Manchester City and Arsenal man believes he is able to get a better deal with another club.

The Frenchman signed for Manuel Pellegrini’s side following his 18-month doping ban which ended in December but only went on to feature six times in all competitions.

OPINION

There is no doubting Nasri’s ability, that has never been in question. When he is at his best he oozes class and it’s no wonder that he has a Premier League winners medal to his name.  But, with only six appearances since December, he simply cannot be offered such a bumper deal given how little an impact he has made. It’s unfortunate that Nasri has not been able to replicate the form which made him one of the best attacking midfielders in the league in his younger days – he could have played for anyone.  West Ham are right to offer him a pay-as-you-play deal, it’s low-risk and if Nasri did hit top-form then the Hammers would have been head-over-heels. However, extending his current £75,000 per week deal wouldn’t make any sense and those type of funds can be spent on a player who can make an immediate impact.
