Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn is hopeful that Bournemouth loanee Tyrone Mings will return to the club after his loan deal expires at the end of the season.

Unfortunately for Villa, they do not have an option to buy but they do have a clause which allows them to match any bids made for the defender from other clubs.

Dean Smith has held initial talks to bring the 26-year-old defender to Villa Park on a permanent basis but the deal really does hang on whether Villa are victorious in their quest for promotion.

Villa star John McGinn, who has been at the centre of the club’s success this season, has made it clear he wants the central defender back in claret and blue next term.

“Tyrone has been different class since he joined in January. It took us ages to get him,” he said in the Express & Star.

“He is a colossus at the back. I just don’t know how he does not get a game for Bournemouth.

“If we can keep hold of Ty in the Premier League, if we get there, it would be brilliant for the club.”

OPINION

Mings has been absolutely sensational since his Villa arrival and it’s hardly surprising to see that the club are desperate to sign him permanently.  Since his deadline-day move in January, Mings has featured 17 times for Dean Smith’s men and Villa have won 10 games whilst he has been on the pitch. His surge in form will not have gone unnoticed and Bournemouth may now want him in their own starting XI rather than cashing in on the 26-year-old. Villa should go all out for Mings and with James Chester set to return from his injury next term, the two could form a formidable partnership. Mings will not be short on suitors though and Villa will need promotion to give themselves the best chance of landing the defender. Villa know just how important he has been since he joined and it’s refreshing to see Mings find his feet again.
