Gus Poyet shared that he felt that Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino wouldn’t leave the club in the summer but highlighted what would influence his decision.

The former Spurs shared it would be a shame if Pochettino left having not won a trophy, along with any member of the current squad, before directly sharing his views on the manager’s future.

“It would be a shame if Pochettino were to leave the club or if any player leaves without a trophy,” wrote Poyet in his column for the People (Sunday May 27th. page 3 of the Champions League pullout).

“It would be really sad because they have done so much together, but I have my doubts that Pochettino will leave.”

Poyet then shared it was hard to comment on whether the Argentinean would stay without knowing the result of the Champions League final, but suggested that if the manager was thinking of leaving then there would be a few things he’d want made clear before deciding his future.

“It’s very difficult to talk about it now because winning and not winning completely changes the equation,” added the the 51-year-old.

“There are so many key things for a manager to stay, in this case they have moved into the stadium and Pochettino will want to  know what is going to happen to the main players – who will stay and who can he bring in and, with all that on the table, he will be able to make a decision.

“I have a feeling he will stay.”

While Poyet has made clear he believes Pochettino is going nowhere, something Spurs’ fanbase will love, the rest of his remarks will result in many Tottenham fans having their eyed glued to Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

This is because only Levy can answer the questions Poyet rightly thinks Pochettino needs answering.

Depending on the Spurs chairman’s answers, it could decide whether Pochettino thinks he is better off leaving on a high, after reaching the Champions League final regardless if they win, as he will surely have plenty of job offers to consider.

The Spurs boss has worked wonders to achieve what he has with his current squad but if key players are to leave or he is still not going to get funds in the transfer market, no one would blame him if he walked.

However Levy has the power to convince him to stay, if does think about an exit, and as a result Spurs fans will be glued to the chairman’s actions in the coming the weeks.
