Tottenham Hotspur have been given a boost in their ongoing task to keep Christian Eriksen at the club until next season this week as Real Madrid reportedly won’t match his price tag.

The Spanish giants are reportedly reluctant to offer higher than €85m (£72.2million) for the Spurs midfielder, according to the top Spanish source, AS.

This is surely positive news for the Spurs faithful, with it looking increasingly more likely that the Danish international will be playing his football in the Premier League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next season.

Eriksen has been linked numerous times now with Madrid, but unless Zinedine Zidane is willing to match the asking price of €100m (£85million), as stated by AS, it doesn’t look too likely that the supposed transfer will be happening after all.

With the 27-year old looking like he’ll be staying with the North London club, Mauricio Pochettino will surely be looking forward to next season where Spurs will be hoping to improve on this years campaign.

Real are also reportedly looking to acquire the services of Paul Pogba and Eden Hazard, and likely won’t pay more than they need to for Eriksen in the summer as it’s not like they don’t have other options.

The midfield maestro’s contract is due to expire in 12 months time, so fans should definitely be expecting some contract negotiations to be ongoing throughout the summer transfer window, into the new season.

Pochettino will have to offer the Dane a new contract, should he still be playing his football in North London come the end of the season, otherwise the club could be at risk of losing Eriksen on a free transfer in 2020.

However while that might be gamble to take, given Spurs chairman Daniel Levy’s tendency to be a tough negotiator, Real Madrid not being willing to match the club’s demand for Eriksen, it will surely be a hurdle in their pursuit they won’t overcome without a change of heart.

So many Tottenham fans will jump for joy over this update as the talented Eriksen now looks more likely to say.
