Tottenham attacker Fernando Llorente revealed he was happy at the club and shared he would love to be at Spurs for another year.

The 34-year old, who earns £75,000-a-week (Source: Spotrac), spoke out about his future at the club to express his desire to stay at the North London club despite more often than not being the second-choice striker behind Kane.

“I would love to stay for another year, but the truth is I am not thinking much about that right now,” said Llorente in an interview with Sky Sports.

“I believe the important thing at the moment is the team, not for individual players to think about themselves.

“If I am happy and determined every day, if I am enjoying every training session even when I am not playing, it’s because of the great job he (Pochettinho) does managing and planning everything.

“We have a very good relationship.”

OPINION

For a club to have a player like Llorente as their back-up striker is a blessing, especially when that same club has a first choice striker as good as Kane. The Spaniard is clearly aware that he is unlikely to get too much first team football, and taking everything into consideration, he seems to be dealing with this pretty well. At the age of 34, Llorente is nearing the back end of his career, and he seems more than happy to do so at a club fighting for the top four in the Premier League, and competing in Europe for the Champions League. As the striker seems fairly keen to stay in North London, for another year at least, it wouldn’t be too surprising for Pochettino to suggest offering Llorente an extension on his contract, ahead of the new season. There are worse strikers in the league to have as your back-up, and the veteran forward has shown on numerous occasions this season that he still has what it takes to play at the highest of levels, most memorably scoring the goal against Manchester City which helped Spurs to progress into the semi-finals of the Champions League.
