After a season that’s seen criticism for Kieran Trippier, Serge Aurier, Danny Rose and Ben Davies, Tottenham should do all they can to lure Lucas Digne to north London.

The Daily Star reported that Mauricio Pochettino wants to hold talks with Marco Silva which would see Danny Rose and Digne move in opposite directions.

Since his arrival from Barcelona last summer, Digne has been one of Everton’s star performers and with Danny Rose’ Spurs future being uncertain, it would be a wise move if they were able to send the England international to Goodison Park.

At 25-years-old, Digne has the potential to become even better. Given that he has only spent one season in the league – four goals and as many assists as a left-back during your debut season in English football is quite simply brilliant.

The Everton defender is a set-piece specialist and that would benefit any side in the division. Despite Danny Rose being a threat offensively with his pace, Digne offers even more going forwards and if Spurs can use the former to complete a deal it would be a very intelligent piece of business.

Digne is part of an Everton side that has kept the fourth most clean sheets in the league with 14. This, in addition to his goalscoring record, tells you just how good the Frenchman has been. The very best in the league should be plotting moves for Digne  – it would be a masterstroke from Pochettino if he can secure his signature.

The prospect of playing Champions League football could be a major factor in this one, Spurs finished fourth in the Premier League and have the Champions League final on June 1. The club are an attractive proposition and it’s time they started to throw their weight around.
