Tottenham are set to land a massive £88million windfall after making it to the final of the Champions League.

Spurs beat Ajax 3-2 on Wednesday night after being 3-0 down on aggregate at half-time, putting them through on away goals after losing the home leg 1-0.

And that means they’re set to receive £87,992,000 (€102million) from UEFA – a figure that’s a big increase on last year’s figures.

The UEFA payouts were dissected on the football financial Twitter account Swiss Ramble following the semi-finals last week.

Tottenham will receive the second-biggest payout after Liverpool, with both Man City and Man United getting significantly less.

OPINION

This is huge for Tottenham. Daniel Levy has just spent a lot of money on the new stadium, but Mauricio Pochettino has already started paying him back with a stunning performance in Amsterdam. Levy now needs to make a decision about how much money is going to get ploughed back into the team to take them up another level and push for the Premier League title next season. Being in the final of the Champions League will make Tottenham a much more attractive proposition for new players – if they win it even more so. There are expected to be sales as well this summer and if Pochettino has £200million to spend then it’s set to be a very exciting summer for Tottenham fans. By that time they could be champions of Europe – something that seemed very far-fetched at half-time in the Johan Cruyff arena on Wednesday.
