Former Tottenham forward Teddy Sheringham sent Harry Kane a message ahead of the Champions League final against Liverpool.

The retired attacker shared he wished Kane well and revealed he was hoping the 25-year-old would be fit to face the Reds as you never know when it’s your last final.

Sheringham pointed out he wasn’t sure whether Kane would start against Liverpool but claimed it would be good if he was on the bench and able to at least play 30 minutes in Madrid.

“Whether they start Harry or not in a massive game like this, I don’t know,” said Sheringham on Sky Sports News (20:22, Thursday May 23rd).

“He has had problems with his ankles, to have him on the bench and just look around and be like we can put him on for half-an-hour, he’s got a another ten days to get ready for it; that’s a long time in the process of healing.

“Lots of work going into that to make sure ligaments around his ankles are getting stronger day by day, I’m sure they’re keeping him in cotton wool at the moment so he doesn’t go over on it again.

“And I wish him well as you never know when it’s your last final, so let’s hope he’s involved and he plays a big part again.”

OPINION

Kane no doubt will appreciate Sheringham’s message, but the former Spurs ace is a little bit dramatic. Kane is only 25-years-old and if all goes according to plan, he’ll have many more finals in his future. However it’s understandable that the Spurs attacker is likely desperate to feature against the Reds as he is no doubt confident he can ruin Jurgen Klopp’s night. Kane may have battle injuries in his 2018/19 campaign, but he has still been a force in front of goal for Pochettino’s side. The 25-year-old has scored 24 goals in 39 outings this season and the Reds are no doubt aware he is capable of scoring against them no matter how good their defence is. Kane can score from inside the box or outside the box so can be a defender’s nightmare as it’s hard to force him into a position where he doesn’t fancy his chances. It will be interesting to see if Kane starts against Liverpool as if he is fit enough, it will still be a big call by Pochettino to make.
