Danny Mills quickly moved to slap his own not for sale sign on Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich after a fan suggested the player was a gem lurking in the Championship.

The former Leeds player was on talkSPORT alongside Sam Matterface and the pair were asking fans to nominate players they thought were “gems”, as explained at 21mins 13secs on listen again,  in the Championship that Premier League sides should potentially check out.

One fan texted in to suggest that Klich was worth sides checking out as he was a box-to-box midfielder who scored goals, and Matterface asked Mills what he thought of that suggestion.

“No, don’t, no he’s not for sale,” said Mills quickly on talkSPORT (Thursday May 23rd, 21mins 07secs on listen again).

OPINION

It took Mills only seven words to echo the likely response of Leeds fans everywhere as the last thing they would want to see happen this summer is a Premier League side raid them and take players like Klich. The 28-year-old central midfielder had a fantastic 2018/19 campaign as he impressed across the 50 appearances he made. Klich scored 10 goals while assisting nine and seemed to be able to constantly run throughout games even as the season dragged on. Most players would have got tired just watching the Leeds midfielder play and it’s fair to say many Premier League clubs would love to have someone like Klich on their books. However just like Mills quickly made clear, Leeds should not be looking to sell the midfielder. After missing out on promotion this season, it’s important the Whites keep their best players in order to successfully mount a promotion campaign next season.
