Italian journalist Nicolo Schira has claimed that Juventus sporting director Fabio Paratici has received affirmation from Mauricio Pochettino that he will take the manager job at the Italian giants.

In a tweet he put out on Wednesday, the Calciomercato and La Gazzetta dello Sport journalist said the representatives of the two sides had met and had positive talks.

He claimed a possible four-year contract was being worked on for Pochettino.

The tweet translates: “All ahead for Mauricio at the two sides who are looking after the contract. Meanwhile , he has a yes from the Argentine. Work is going ahead on a possible four-year contract.

OPINION

We’re not entirely convinced by this tweet but there have been murmurings this summer about Pochettino leaving. The manager himself said that he could leave if he wins the Champions league with Tottenham – something that is a very real possibility with Spurs in the final against Liverpool. It begs an interesting question. Would Tottenham fans rather win the Champions League and lose Pochettino or lose it and keep him? Spurs fans will be desperate to keep hold of Pochettino but not at the expense of lifting the biggest club trophy in the game. Journalists were confused by the Pochettino comments but he wouldn’t admit it was a joke and the Juventus job is one of the biggest in world football. A lot will probably depend on how much Pochettino has to spend this summer. All the noise coming from north London is that Levy will sanction new signings but the final budget could depend on outgoings too. One thing is certain – if Pochettino does go this summer Spurs fans will want it to be sooner rather than later, so the new man can oversee the summer business. However, nothing will happen until after the Champions League final and Tottenham could do with these rumours dying down ahead of the biggest game in their modern history.
