Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is facing a fierce battle to keep hold of powerhouse defender Davinson Sanchez this summer with a £52million (€60million) offer likely to see him leave the club, according to Don Balon.

The Spanish publication claim on their website that the £65,000-a-week (source: Spotrac) centre back is looking at possibly leaving north London this summer after growing frustrated by the lack of game time he has been afforded.

It is stated that Pochettino desperately does not want him to leave Spurs but that if a bid of £52million were to come in he would have little choice but to offer him the chance to leave.

Opinion

You can understand why Sanchez might be a little frustrated with his season but Pochettino must do all he can to keep him on board at Tottenham this summer. Yes, £52million is an awful lot of money for a defender who has perhaps not lived up to his previous high standards but is it really worth selling up to have to find a replacement? Juan Foyth does not look totally ready to make the step up and so part of that money would have to be reinvested into finding someone who can fill the void at the heart of the defence. If Sanchez does want to go, he needs to let Pochettino know that and give the club time to source a top quality defender who can take his place. However, he must be ready to stay in north London for the foreseeable future – at the end of the day, Tottenham brought him in with a view to having one of the best young defenders on their books.
