Mark Lawrenson believes that Tottenham can bounce back from their midweek defeat to Ajax to get past Bournemouth on Saturday.

Spurs suffered a 1-0 defeat to the Dutch side – their second in a row after also losing to West Ham last weekend.

But Lawro believes that they will have enough to see off the Cherries tomorrow.

Speaking to BBC Sport, he said: “It will be interesting to see how Tottenham go into this game. They are 1-0 down in their Champions League semi-final against Ajax, with an away leg to come on Wednesday, and they are also one win away from securing a top-four finish to get back in the competition next year.

“All of the teams chasing third and fourth have been all over the place in recent weeks, including Spurs who lost at home to West Ham last time out.

“Drop any more points here and things could get a bit jittery for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, who host Everton in their final league game of the season.

“But I actually think they will do all right against Bournemouth – the Cherries always concede a lot of goals and an open game will suit Spurs, who will have Son Heung-min back after his European suspension.”

Lawrenson predicts a 2-1 win for Spurs.

OPINION

You would fancy Lawrenson to be right on this one, but stranger things have happened than Tottenham dropping points here. Spurs looked very distracted last weekend against West Ham, and with a vital second leg looming, surely their minds will be on that game rather than this one. That is completely understandable, but Pochettino’s boys need to be careful. Ideally, they could do with another win, just to settle the nerves when it comes to a Champions League spot, and far better get it this weekend than on the last day. Bournemouth have been very temperamental this season, and if it is the side that tends to capitulate at the slightest sign of resistance, then Spurs should stroll to victory here, despite whatever else they have going on at the moment. The squad may be stretched pretty thin, and they may have bigger fish to fry, but if Spurs slip up here, it would be a really poor showing from Pochettino’s side.
