Former Leeds and Celtic player Micky Gray has raved about the prospect of Gareth Bale signing for Tottenham this summer.

The Sun reported that the former Spurs player has been offered back to Tottenham in a sensational loan deal.

That would involve Tottenham paying £10m for a season-long loan and £250k-a-week – less than half of his £600k-a-week wages.

Talking on the Jim White Show (talkSPORT, Tuesday, 11am), Gray said that it would be an ‘incredible’ signing.

“Now Tottenham supporters, looking at that from the outside, they’ll be thinking how do we get better now?” Gray said.

“But you look at someone like him. He’s a global star now. Signing back for Tottenham I think it would be absolutely incredible.

“Tottenham fans will be absolutely licking their lips. You’re talking about a world class player. Taking them to the next level.

“Has he still got something to give? Absolutely… I think most of it is all ticks. The question is, would Daniel levy fork out that money. But if you want to get better that’s what you have to do.”

OPINION

Signing Bale would be a big risk and Daniel Levy isn’t the sort to take big risks. How would Bale pan out in the Premier League? How would he fit into the Tottenham dressing room? What would the prospect of paying him £250k-a-week mean to the highest earners such as Harry Kane – on a salary nowhere near that. These are all questions that Levy will need to answer before making a decision and if we had to guess which way he’ll go, we think he’ll say no. It’s not a signing that fits in with the Pochettino revolution but it would be one Spurs fans would love and it would be a real statement of intent. We’d love it to happen and according to the Sun’s report the Tottenham transfer committee is considering it, but it seems like a long shot. However, Bale is only 29 and can still make a huge impact in the Premier League.
