BBC pundit Noel Whelan has said he has heard that Pontus Jansson will miss the second leg of the play-off semi-final against Derby on Wednesday.

Jansson missed the first leg through injury and was said to be a doubt for the second leg by manager Marcelo Bielsa.

Gaetano Berardi came in for Jansson in the first leg and helped to keep a clean sheet in the 1-0 win.

Talking to Football Insider, Whelan said, “What I’m hearing is that Jansson will not be fit.”

However, Whelan thinks that Leeds will be fine without him after watching the game on Saturday.

“If not, I think Leeds can cope,” he added. “Gaetano Berardi did really well on Saturday and you always get 100 per cent commitment from him.”

OPINION

Whelan covers all the Leeds games for BBC Leeds and has really good contacts with the club still. It looks like Leeds will have to do without Jansson for the second leg but they should still be able to cope with the Derby attack. They kept them out at Pride Park and they’ve only conceded one goal against them in three games now. There was more bad injury news for Leeds though. Marcelo Bielsa confirmed yesterday that striker Kemar Roofe would miss out, along with Adam Forshaw and Tyler Roberts. The latter two are likely out for the play-off final, too, if Leeds get there. It means that Leeds are down to the bare bones as far as attackers go, with Patrick Bamford set to start after returning from suspension. One thing is certain, they can’t afford to lose anyone else before the Wembley final – if they manage to get past Derby on Wednesday.
