Daniel Levy will back Mauricio Pochettino in the transfer market this summer, according to Football.London’s Tottenham correspondent Alisdair Gold.

The reliable journalist claims that he has heard from numerous sources that the owner is willing to provide his manager with the funds needed to mount a challenge next season.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Gold said: “Have heard from a couple of sources this week that Poch will be backed in the transfer market this summer with the funds to push on next season & challenge.

“Levy’s not a fool & he knows what he’s got in this manager.

“Should be a very interesting summer whatever happens on June 1.”

OPINION

This will be music to the ears of Tottenham fans. After two barren transfer windows, all they will be hoping for is that Levy shows his intent to turn their club into a top contender, even if that doesn’t happen for a couple of years yet. Spurs are at something of a crossroads. They have the stadium, they have the manager, and somehow, they have a shot at the biggest prize in club football. And yet, you still get the feeling that they are not an elite club. Levy must now decide whether he wants to remedy that, or if he is happy with his side’s status as the best of the rest. Obviously, some things are dependant on what happens in the immediate future. If Spurs become champions of Europe, suddenly you’re in a position whereby they can attract the top, top names. Throw into the mix that incredible stadium, and you have a really special proposition for any potential signing. If Levy can capitalise on that hype then this could be a huge summer for Spurs.
