The agents of Tottenham right-back Serge Aurier are working on a deal to extract him from north London this summer, according to Football Insider.
The 26-year-old signed for £22.5million from PSG in the summer of 2017 but hasn’t really delivered for Mauricio Pochettino.
His agents are now looking back to France with Monaco, owned by billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev, said to be interested, although FI claim they won’t pay “anywhere near” the price that Spurs shelled out for the Ivory Coast international.
FI claim Daniel Levy will sell if he can get close to the price he paid.
Good move for Tottenham?
Of all the positions we weren’t expecting Tottenham to suffer in last summer, it was right-back. Kieran Trippier had just had a brilliant World Cup and Serge Aurier was expected to kick-on after a disappoitning first season. Kyle Walker-Peters was waiting on the sidelines. However, Trippier has been pretty awful but as bad as he’s been there’s been no regular place in the team fro Aurier or Walker-Peters. Aurier only made 17 appearances across all competitions and always seems like he’s got a big mistake inside him. We think this is one of the three areas Pochettino has to focus on in the summer, as well as making a decision over Walker-Peters – play him or move him on. As for Aurier, we think that if Tottenham can get anywhere near the £22.5million they paid, they should snap the buyer’s hands off.

Likely to happen?
We think it’s very likely. Aurier isn’t good enough for Tottenham and Pochettino doesn’t seem to trust him. He needs an upgrade on all the right-backs at the club and he can sell both Trippier and Aurier and invest in a marquee signing and a back-up. Aurier obviously feels the same way and his career has taken a big backward step since he arrived in north London. He may well leave with a Champions League winners medal, though, which should make his two years worthwhile. The big question is how much of a hit Daniel Levy is willing to take.
