COMMENTARY
Newcastle United were linked with making a move for Everton midfielder James McCarthy by TEAMtalk on Tuesday, and it didn’t go down well among some members of the Magpies’ fanbase. In fact it seems many Newcastle fans were dismayed at the idea that the club were pursuing a player like the 28-year-old Toffees midfielder. While the football outlet made it clear that the interest in McCarthy stemmed from Magpies boss Rafa Benitez, despite rating their beloved manager, it was clear to see the midfielder wouldn’t be welcomed at St James Park. It’s understandable why Magpies fans thought their club can do better as signing McCarthy would be a huge gamble on the club’s part. The 28-year-old has been riddled with injury problems in recent seasons, and managed only one league appearance in his 2018/19 campaign. Given that no one wants to see their club sign an injury-prone player, it makes sense this report disappointed some. Also given that one Magpies fan rightly said 21-year-old Sean Longstaff was better, especially if you compare their latest campaigns, why are Newcastle linked to McCarthy at all?

If this takeover happens (or even if it doesn't) the days of signing players who fell short of expectations, are constant sick notes, made of glass or are in any way not committed to #nufc & @rafabenitezweb ARE OVER!? Next we'll hear that we're in for their T Rex armed keeper?
