COMMENTARY
It should come as little surprise that Newcastle United’s number nine, Salomon Rondon, was the winner of the club’s player of the year award after his impressive performances leading the line during his loan spell from West Brom. A willing runner as well as a powerhouse who caused opposition defences all sorts of problems up front, he has been a worthy figure to wear the famous number nine shirt at St James’ Park – but just how long will he be wearing it for? He sent out a heartfelt tweet thanking his teammates and the fans on Tyneside for their support after winning the award and unsurprisingly there were plenty of messages urging him to stay in the north east past the summer. Whether Newcastle United’s decision makers can, or even want to, agree a deal with West Brom for a summer deal remains to be seen but regardless of what happens, he has established himself as a fan favourite this season.
I feel really honoured to have been named @NUFC's Player of the Year. A real privilege! ??
I owe the award to my teammates and you Magpies who've battled all the way with us. Thank you for the amazing support at St. James' Park!!
