Sky Sports journalist Pete Graves has posted an exciting update on the Newcastle takeover, on the eve of what’s been dubbed a ‘significant day’ by the Bin Zayed group, saying that either someone is lying or “it’s happening”.
He said that while there’s still been no word from BZG or Newcastle, his sources have been “bullishly positive” about the takeover.
His takeaway from this is that either “someone resourceful is lying, or it’s happening. Fascinating… Frustrating… Keep refreshing.”

“It’s happening”… The two words all Newcastle fans want to see. Unfortunately, there’s a caveat but it does beg the question, why would someone at the BZG be lying about how advanced their takeover bid is? The BZG is a serious business and it wouldn’t look good if they were shown to be lying about something so big and so public. Friday was earmarked as a significant day by the BZG so we’re looking for something major to happen today – hopefully a statement from Newcastle. It’s the weekend in the UAE now so we would have already expected a BZG statement if that’s what was forthcoming. As Graves has said, this is the day when Newcastle fans will want to “keep refreshing” in the hope that something major is revealed. For now, Graves is content that his sources are “bullishly confident” and while there’s cautious scepticism from other corners, it looks like this takeover definitely still has legs. Are they strong enough to get it over the line?
