Mark Goldbridge urged Manchester United to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes after watching him play against Porto on Saturday.

The host of the United Stand, a show which has 455,344 subscribers on YouTube, took to his personal Twitter account to tell Man United chief executive Ed Woodward to sign the 24-year-old midfielder up.

“Bruno Fernandes with another goal! Sign him up Ed! The lad is the real deal,” wrote Goldbridge.

Portuguese outlet A Bola previously claimed that Man United had shown interest in signing Fernandes and pointed out that the midfielder’s current contract had a release clause worth £86.6million (100million euros).

OPINION

While Goldbridge can sometimes be out there with his opinions on Man United, he is spot-on to urge them to sign Fernandes. The 24-year-old attacking midfielder has all the skills needed to wow at Old Trafford as he could be the creative spark they lacked in their 2018/19 campaign. Fernandes has scored 33 goals and registered 17 assists in his 53 outings this season, and those sort of numbers show what a talent he is. In fact the midfielder was involved with 45% (Source: Transfermarkt) of the goals Sporting scored in the league in their latest campaign. Given that Manchester United need several top-quality players to arrive after finishing a disappointing sixth in the Premier League, there’s no reason why they shouldn’t go out of their way to convince him to join. Also while Fernandes’ release clause in his contract is a staggering amount of money, Woodward can surely negotiate a more reasonable price to pay for the 24-year-old.
