Everton are set to meet the representative of River Plate midfielder Santiago Sosa to seal a £11.8million ($15million) deal for the 20-year-old, according to TyC Sports.

The Argentine broadcaster claim on their website that the Toffees are closing in on a deal for the Argentinaunder-20 international, who made his first team breakthrough at River Plate in the season just gone.

It is stated the player’s representative is set to jet into Europe to meet with the Goodison Park outfit and seal a deal which will see the young central midfielder swap Buenos Aires for Merseyside.

Opinion

It is always difficult to judge what sort of impact a young prospect will have but it seems as though Everton have seriously high hopes for Sosa. You do not splash nearly £12million on a youngster if you do not think he has the ability to make an immediate impact at the club and if this deal does get completed then fans can expect to see him in and around the senior side from the start. It might not be the midfield deal that Everton supporters want, with a permanent move for Andre Gomes likely to be top of their shortlist, but this should still be a deal which gets them a little excited. It will of course raise some eyebrows – after all, he is an unproven talent at the very start of his professional career and that big price tag puts a lot of pressure on his shoulders – but the Toffees would not be willing to dip their hands into their pockets if they were not confident of him making a mark on the club in the very near future.
